I watched the Paradise Kiss movie last night, and I LOOOOVED it. I plan on writing a smallish post about it, because it was adorable. For awhile there I was obsessed with the anime and manga. How could I not be? George is like, the model of the self-involved arrogant men I love in fiction (less hot in real life). And Yukari? The girl who discovered she was a kickass person who made her own success in life, but had to grow up, and give up some things in the process? That's my kind of heroine. Add in that the movie starred my Japanese soul-mate Osamu (HE'S A FUCKING SCIENTIST WHO IS BOTH OLDER AND TALLER THAN ME), and the cutest spunky girl around who likes reading and cats, Keiko. Add in the ab-tastic Mr. Yusuke, and you've got yourself a movie I wouldn't miss for the world. (I need to start watching jdramas again...)

So, probable post in the future. For now, I'll leave you with this. Bitch. Is. Flawless.

Anyway, this season in western TV! I'm currently watching;

How I Met Your Mother - Naturally.
Gossip Girl - Addicted.
Glee - Lost it's luster a bit. I'm mostly in it for Will/Emma.
Lost Girl - I watched half of the first season, randomly stopped watching it, and picked it back up this season. I don't know...
Bones - If it EVER comes back...
Doctor Who - It's off right now, but you KNOW I'll be in it as soon as it comes back.

New Girl - I love Zooey, but the premise is a bit lackluster. Still, she's cute, and I like funny fluff, so whatever.
Suburgatory - Randomly got hooked on this one day. Tessa reminds me a lot of Emma Stone's character in "Easy A", which is a good thing. Plus Jeremy Sisto, Cheryl Hines (OMG WAITRESS BUDDIES, YOU GUYZ!), and Alan Tudyk... I think I'm going to keep watching. Though I know from experience, growing up in a rich suburb of a major city is NOTHING like the show portrays.
American Horror Story - I would expect nothing but the most insane shit around from the same guys who brought me Nip/Tuck (which I love, and watched until it went in the shitter). I love the dreamy, crazy-as-fuck, exploitative feel of it. Nudity and sex? SURE. Brutal killings and maiming? ABSOLUTELY. Hallucinations and half dreamed occurrences? DEFINITELY. Seriously, if you watched Nip/Tuck, this show is following the same path. Not that that's a bad thing. I love love love love Jessica Lange, and hellllllo Dylan McDermott's ass... As someone who watched The Practice religiously, and lusted after Dylan McDermott for years, I can say I quite enjoy seeing him be morally compromised and naked once more.
Grimm - Watched the first episode, liked it. We'll see if I keep it.
Once Upon a Time - See above. I do think I'll keep this one though. I quite like Jennifer Morrison, and I also quite like that it takes place in the North East (though, of course, filmed in Canada). I guess if there's any place in the US that looks like it's from a fairy tale, it's Maine.
Pan Am - Okay, I'm ridiculous, insanely, immensely obsessed with this show. You have no freaking idea. It's my favorite of the season, and I just don't get the people who say it has no substance. I think it has a lot. You've got a girl in the 60's learning how to be her own woman outside of a relationship, you've got a bohemian who plays by her own rules and is not afraid to be herself, a lovely woman with a tragic past who embodies glamour and beauty, and a girl who grew up always feeling like second best, who ran away to live her life. I love it. Kate's my favorite character, but I love them all. And OMG is the girl who plays Laura beautiful. She has probably the most perfect, symmetrical face I've ever seen. I SO ship Kate with her CIA/Interpol contacts, and Laura with Ted.

Random Other
Sugar Rush - I watched the first episode the other day, and managed to spend HOURS marathoning most of the first series. Love it. And ANDREW GARFIELD! I keep randomly seeing him in things without knowing he was in them prior to watching.

If you've been following me on twitter, you've probably noticed that recently I've become addicted to Gossip Girl. I'm talking obsessed. I love it so so so much. Especially Blair. And Chuck. And Blair AND Chuck.

I only recently started watching it. Literally starting from the end working my way forwards. I had watched the first episode a few times, but it never really drew me in. I guess I needed the Blair/Chuck relationship to do that. I'm working my way through season 2 right now (with heavy fastforwarding - basically any scene not involving either Blair or Chuck), and it's total love for me.

I've always wanted to be rich. But not regular rich. I want to be old money rich. I desire all that old school pomp and circumstance. The east coast millionaire stuff. So much so that I literally consider and use "Nouveau riche" as an insult. I love Blair because she is basically the epitome of the old school rich. I love Chuck because he's an asshole, and I love the assholes. What can I say?

But that's not the point of this entry.

There was an episode in season 2, where a character calls Serena "gorgeous, sweet, and amazing". I was all like "WHAT DID SHE JUST SAY?!".

(~ 0:47)

Basically this confirms my sneaking suspicion that GD watched/watches Gossip Girl. I mean, he has a song named "Gossip Man", and even uses the Gossip Girl sign off in the song (well, it's modified - instead of "XOXO Gossip Girl", he says "XO Gossip Man". Close enough).

And clearly, my girls Rainbow are fans. I love when my American life ties in with my Kpop life.

CLEARLY this is not circumstantial evidence. Not a coincidence in the slightest ;P
uisceros: (Dear God I love you Toma-kun!)
You guys, you guys! I was watching the last episode of Nikita, and the new guy - Owen - is DEVON SAWA. The 90's have really just come back at me all at once here. When Casper came out in '95, all the girls in my elementary school found him dreamy. I, personally, was in love with Bill Pullman. Also weird - Devon Sawa is now 32. I never knew he was that much older than me.

Sorry I've been MIA for awhile (except for on my twitter). There are two large things responsible for it; my weirdly deteriorating health (another story for another time), and my extremely annoying computer and it's issues.

Also, I just haven't had anything good to talk about. I had planned for when I started work, I'd get back into blogging. But it's been one stupid health thing after another. I'm all tired, and nothing gets done. I have around a dozen flister's blog posts I need to comment on, but it's been hard getting anything done. I STILL READ EVERYTHING, even if I don't always comment/reply.

But yeah... Not much to write about, but I figured since I had all these random nail polish pictures on my camera, why not post them!

Three manicures I did )

Otherwise I've been watching a lot of "The Venture Bros", which when it came out in 2004, I was OBSESSED with (in particular, Dean. I think I joined a fanclub for him. Seriously. A FAN CLUB). And then it didn't come back the next year, and I was depressed because I thought it was canceled. And then I forgot about it for awhile. UNTIL RECENTLY WHEN I FOUND OUT IT'S STILL AIRING. That show is literally like, the best thing on the air. Ever. It's exactly my type of humor, which makes life more awesome, because now I belong somewhere!
... and there goes my sarcasm again.

But yeah, watch it.

In trying to get myself back on the track of not sucking, I decided to clean out my closet. This involved getting rid of SIX bags of clothes, one bag of shoes, and random other stuff. Goodwill is going to either love me, or hate me. Also, teenage!me made some interesting fashion choices; purple suede pencil skirts, mesh shirts (FOUR OF THEM), a pair of grey nylon capris, etc. I also discovered that I have an ungodly amount of fleece jackets. I think I buy a new one every year, because about a fifth of my closet is fleece.

I finished Better Off Ted, which was awesome, and due to my developing a girlcrush on Portia de Rossi, I started watching Arrested Development (which I also love). I do this when I get all depressed - watch sitcoms. For some reason, usually what I watch is Fraiser... Though I have had a recent desire to watch Wings. I LOVED Wings when I was a kid. I want to go to Nantucket and hang out in the airport...

I will definitely be going to the S.H.E concert later this month. I'm excited! I was going to stay overnight in the casino, but it's $1200 A NIGHT. FOR THE CHEAPEST ROOM. Naturally I compared this to the most famous and luxurious hotel in Taipei, which was around $200 a night. The disparity is too great. I've got to stop comparing prices here to prices in Taiwan...

Speaking of Taiwan, I'm going to an honest-to-God Taiwanese restaurant tonight. I will finally get to eat a damn scallion pancake. They don't have oyster omelets, thought they do have an oyster pancake. Not sure what that is... There are two locations, and the menu for one of them had shaved ice on it (OMG SHAVED ICE!!!), but the other one doesn't. And of course I'm going to the one without the ice on the menu... But, you never know. They might have it. And bubble tea. AND PATATA?! No one has Patata...

Feeling kinda weird right now... I was drinking some delightful chocolate liqueur, but on an empty stomach, so now I just kinda feel sick... (PSSST! Not drunk, just really tired, which is why this entry is all over the place)

But, you guys, I'm going to be seeing Selina, Hebe, and Ella live!! And because I can understand and speak some Mandarin, I will be able to sing along and make sense. And I can also scream "加油 Selina! 加油 Hebe! 加油 Ella! 加油 S.H.E!! 我愛你!!!!". It'll be fun.

- I don't sleep much anymore. Like, 5 hours or less usually. It's not for lack of trying, though. It's weird, I either sleep 12-14 hours a night, or 4-6. Never in-between...

- I have a strange love affair with my air conditioner. I have one of the in-window ones, and I love it to death. It blocks out noises, and leaves my room cool and dark. It's like being in a cave. Except with a bed.

- I'm flailing quietly over Better Off Ted, which of course I start watching after it was canceled. *sigh* For some reason, I inherently knew that the guy who plays Ted is from Massachusetts. I have no idea how or why I knew this, I just did.

I'm still deep in LOST-world. I'm rewatching the first season right now, while simultaneously reading fanfic.

I'm amused by a lot of people reacting to the ending. Specifically the people who never watched the show, or haven't kept up. The general consensus for them is utter confusion.

The thing is, you can't casually watch LOST. It's not one of those shows that you can miss an episode or so (let alone a season), and still understand the plot. Even the people who watch every episode find it confusing. In my opinion, that's LOST's greatest strength, it keeps people coming back for more.

I know a lot of people just watched the finale without seeing it before, or just want to know what happened. Well, it's not that easy to explain. I can barely explain what happens episode to episode.

"Oh, you know the smoke monster? Well actually it's an incarnation of the Man in Black, who is Jacob's twin brother. And Jacob is the protector of the Source, which he inherited from his Mother. She isn't really his mother though, their real mother was murdered by their adoptive mother after she gave birth. And Locke isn't really Locke anymore, you know, because he was killed by Ben after he left the island via the giant donkey wheel because he needed to fix all the time travel that was going on. Because Ben screwed it up to begin with, and then Sawyer, Juliet, Miles, Jin, etc were all stuck in the 1970's, so they joined the Dharma Initiative. Locke went back to LA to visit the Oceanic 6, to try to get them back on the island, but they didn't want to come at first, so Locke was going to kill himself, but Ben murdered him after convincing him not to commit suicide. And when the Ajira plane got back to the island, Locke was miraculously alive again, but actually he was the Man in Black all along. And the MIB got Ben to kill Jacob, and then needed to find a way to kill off the candidates...."

^^^ And that's only the last two seasons. It's impossible to explain.

So what did happen in the final episode of LOST? Well, this is a good explanation (though it honestly won't make much sense to people who don't follow LOST, because you need to understand certain fundamentals that were presented in this season.

Quick and Dirty Summary of the Ending-> The island is NOT Purgatory. The island is, according to Jacob, the only thing that is keeping evil from destroying the world. The smoke monster is trying to destroy the island, thereby letting all the evil out. Most of the survivors died through the series. At the end, Jack took over being the island's protector. His last duty was to restore the island after killing the smoke monster. Jack died doing this. Hurley became the new protector, with Ben as his adviser. Kate, Sawyer, Claire, Miles, Richard, and Frank all left the island. The alternate reality presented in the "flash-sideways" was actually a form of Purgatory, where all the survivors met after death (because they had all had a profound affect on each other during their lives). At the end they are all dead (at various points in their lives), all together, and all happy. The end is them ascending into "heaven".

uisceros: (YOU'VE BEEN ARTZ'D!)
I started watching Dancing with the Stars at the gym. It was the only thing on at the time, and it's a good show to work out to.

The thing is, I started really loving it. I never liked reality shows or competition stuff, but somehow, my love for DwtS overcame that. Right now it's down to Nicole Scherzinger, Evan Lysacek, Erin Andrews, and Chad Ochocinco. My favorites are Nicole and Erin. Nicole because she's fantastic, and Erin because her personality is awesome (she's a great dancer as well).

This week they danced Latin-style. The standout was Nicole and Derek's Paso Doble. I really love the Paso Doble, and have ever since I saw it in Strictly Ballroom. OMG guys, if you haven't seen Strictly Ballroom, you NEED TO, NOW. I love that movie. Anyway, Nicole's dance was amazing.

My two other favorite dances from this week -> Erin and Maks' Argentine Tango (it was FABULOUS! I love erin and Maks' interaction. They're hilarious, especially at the end when Erin imitates Maks "Come on woman! Jump on me NOOW!"), and Evan and Anna's Cha-Cha-Cha (VERY COOL! And Evan imitating Wall-e was so cute!).

- LOST was awesome. Loved that episode, and now I just feel bad for Locke-monster.
- Oh My Lady ended, and I'm sad. Not TOO happy with the ending, but when am I ever? Seriously, the only ending I was ever really satisfied with was One Pound Gospel.
- I went to the city today to shop. And shop I did. I bought stuff from H&M and American Apparel, both of which don't have many stores nearby (though of course they have BOTH in Korea. I know because I saw them)
- I love my purchases from American Apparel. A color-changing shirt, and a sheer see-through shirt (I wouldn't wear it alone, but I DID see a girl working there who was wearing it with only a bra underneath. She's braver than I).
- I love my H&M purchases as well. Several ruffly shirts (I like ruffles, okay?), a light sweater (I'm cold a lot), and a shirt I deemed "Michael Jackson-style" (it has embellished shoulders).
- I had a dream earlier that involved Glee. Brad Pitt was there too. Sometimes I think a little too much about Brad Pitt...
- Have you guys heard about the school attacks in China? How horrible. The use of the phrase "hacked to death" makes it even worse. I can't even imagine.

Let just say, I'm not happy.
uisceros: (Default)
Surely everyone knows The Jersey Shore by now? I've never watched it, but it's kinda hard to escape without hearing about it.

Well, it seems like they will be filming a version of it here in Massachusetts. It will be called "Massholes" (which is what people from the surrounding states call us. Course we've turned it around, and now it's like a badge of honor).

The best part is, if it does air, it will ROCK. More for people in-state than out. Because the type of people they're looking for? We all know them. Some of us have them in our families...

Random oddity: I don't usually have a very pronounced Boston accent (it usually only comes out when I'm talking fast). However WHENEVER I read about typical Boston stuff, my head-voice gets a strong Boston accent. Like, I was reading this piece on slate (related to the tv show), and BAM! Instant accent. Watching movies like Good Will Hunting, or Gone Baby Gone do this to me as well. Why the sneak!accent?

LOST is fucking with me. Seriously, insane.

Michael and Libby! I flailed over the flashbacks. I love how the dead people are stuck on the island. I'm STILL hopeful for a Shannon appearance. Monster!Locke is getting crazy, especially what with pushing Desmond down a fucking well. Alternate!Desmond is crazy too though. I assume he was either trying to make Locke remember stuff by near-death experience, which is why he hit him with his car. Either that, or he thinks Locke is evil... I love that the previews for next week had the LSD trip song from Willy Wonka.

As for Glee... IDINA MENZEL! I love her so so so so so much.

I've recently been amused by how weird and awesome it is that Taec (from 2PM / Cinderella Unni, obviously) lived right near where I lived. He lived in Bedford MA, which is really close to my hometown. My mother used to work in Bedford, so I went there a lot. How weird is it that I could have possibly seen Taec at THE MALL (there's a big mall around there, incidentally the same mall they filmed the Kevin James movie "Mall Cop" at...)?!
uisceros: (Joseph)
I watched episode 7 subbed. Dramas are so much better when you can fully understand what's going on... Naturally the first thing I did when I woke up, was download and watch the raw for episode 8. I have no patience.

All I can say about episode 8, is that it's so cute it's insane. The rest is spoilery (not so much for plot, as much for just random stuff that goes on.

Spoilery for Oh My Lady episode 8 )

Now, another week to wait before new episodes. *sigh*

I plan on watching episodes 3 and 4 of Cinderella Unni tonight, so I can be caught up for tomorrow's episode. Personal Preference airs tomorrow too, and I'm excited for that as well.

As for tonight, we've got LOST, AND Glee. They air at the same time. Why did you do that to me, FOX? As much as I love Glee, LOST wins this one. I've been watching LOST for 6 years, I'm not going to stop now. I even went to the gym really early today just so I wouldn't miss LOST.

Spoilers, obviously )

Found out I'm not the biggest fan of Jin Xuan tea (金萱茶, aka Golden Lily tea)... It's a green oolong (which means it's not very fermented), and while I definitely over steeped it (I don't use my gong fu set when I'm only making tea for myself, so with my individual pot thingy, it's hard to tell when the tea is done), it has a green tea flavor, and I'm not fond of green tea overall.

I still have several more teas I brought back from Taiwan that I haven't tried as of yet (Tung Ting/Dong Ding, High Mountain Oolong, Pu Er, and Rose tea). I'm saving them... God knows when I'll be able to get back to Taiwan, and buying Chinese tea in the US is expensive. Especially my favorite tea in the world (that stuff is like freaking ambrosia. SO. GOOD.)

I'm not going to liveblog... probably. I'm working on a Chinese translation (which is made even more difficult by it being in simplified), so liveblogging isn't the priority.

Buuuuut.... SPOILERS for LOST S06E08 )

Yeah, I'm liveblogging again, I do it mostly for me.

Spoilers up until S06E06 of LOST )

Still cold. Very cold.

Aw, George Clooney sounds EXACTLY like his dad (the voice, and how he speaks) <- watching 20/20 Before They Were Famous
uisceros: (Park Bom)
I might liveblog this... mostly because LOST is getting kah-razy. Like, it's always been crazy, but I could keep on top of it easily. But OMG this season is a mindfuck. I'm having a hell of a time keeping up with details.

Okay, liveblog. Spoilers up to 'Lighthouse' )

Well that was eventful.

I'm trying drink mixes, because I need to drink more water, but I'm not a fan of the taste of water. Hawaiian Punch drink mix is good, and only 10 calories. Same as Crystal Light, but with better flavor.

I bought some Metabolife to try (I've heard good things in the past, and I figured I could try it). You have to take SIX PILLS A DAY, which is kinda hard for me. I have issues taking pills. They get lodged in my throat for some reason. Which is why I take gummy chewable vitamins and avoid pills bigger than Aleve. Course the Metabolife pills are huge.

*sigh* I have to go clean now.
