Yeah, that's what I think too. Like, I know a lot of Taiwanese speak english, but still. Highly intimidating.
I like that way of traveling, actually. Getting a general taste of the area. I did that when I backpacked europe; we took bus tours mostly. We didn't see everything, but now I know where I want to go back, and where I don't.
