"Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given."
What I am associated with;
1. Taiwan! You love it more than anyone else I know, so tell us all about it!
2. Makeup - talk about your favourite brands.
3. Music - favourite styles, artists.
4. Anime (I didn't know you liked anime as well!)
5. Liveblogging - I can only do it the second time I watch something, so I'm interested in how you go about doing so the first time.
1. Taiwan! You love it more than anyone else I know, so tell us all about it!
My love affair with Taiwan is a bit of a weird story. I'm not even sure exactly how it came to be.
It started with Japan. My first dramas were Japanese, so I got into Japanese stuff first. Originally I was trying to learn Japanese (I still want to learn Japanese, but it's taken a backseat), and live there. I never even once THOUGHT of Taiwan. I like to say that I thought it was a land of factories (everything used to be made in Taiwan, it's not that strange of a thought), and I didn't differentiate between it and China.
And then, while searching for new jdramas, I saw a rec for It Started With a Kiss. I didn't know it was Taiwanese at the time, and decided to watch it. At first I wasn't impressed. Watching a twdrama after jdramas is quite a shock (twdrama production quality sucks in general). But it grew on me. I like how they portrayed romance, it was SO different from jdramas. Once ISWAK was finished, I watched Devil Beside You. DBY did it, I was officially in love with twdramas.
Even after I realized my love for twdramas, I wasn't particularly interested in Taiwan. Taipei seemed dirty and boring compared to Tokyo. Mandarin seemed like an ugly language compared to Japanese. I don't know when things changed, but they did. I slowly started to like Mandarin more and more. Over time Taipei seemed less dirty. Eventually, everything about Taiwan seemed beautiful to me. From twdramas, I started reading about the culture. From there, I read Taiwanese history. I read about the landscape, the people, the politics. It evolved, I guess.
It's amusing to me, to think that only 7 months ago I couldn't have cared less about Taiwan. And now, here I am. I think I'm meant to be there somehow.
2. Makeup - talk about your favourite brands.
My love of makeup started when I was 11 or 12, and I haven't looked back! I collect it. Obsessively.
My favorite brands include; Hard Candy, Tarte, Stila, Too Faced, Nars, and Urban Decay.
To be more specific, favorite brand for;
Foundation - Maybelline (still the best I've ever tried)
Eyeshadow - Urban Decay / Nars (Urban Decay makes amazing glittery shadows. Nars has the best colors I've seen)
Eyeliner - Revlon / Stila (Revlon is really good for smoky liners. Stila is good for sharper lines)
Mascara - Stila (Actually, this is arbitrary. I've liked basically all mascaras I've tried. I just have the most from Stila)
Blush - Stila (Their cream blush is great! I never wear powder blush, it's hard to control)
Lipgloss - Tarte (AMAZING colors, and an interesting gel formula)
Lipstick - Clinique (I almost never wear lipstick, but when I do, it's ALWAYS Clinique)
I DO wear drugstore stuff, but I try not to buy products tested on animals, and a lot of drugstore stuff IS.
3. Music - favourite styles, artists.
My favorite band of all time is Silverchair. I discovered them in my freshman year of college, and wondered how I could have lived 18 years without them. I once considered flying across the country to LA to see them play. If I could have afforded it, I would have. Other than Silverchair, I don't really follow any other Western bands. I have ones I like a lot (Ben Folds, Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox Twenty, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc), but not to the same degree. To be honest, I always enjoyed music, but I was never really THAT into it.
With western music, my taste is all over the place. In general, I like alternative rock most. I'm always up for anything angsty with a rock beat. But I also REALLY like pop with a euro-dance beat.
My favorite types of asian music are basically the same (being all over the place). I like boyband pop stuff. I like rap stuff. I like the harder rock stuff. I listen to mostly Mandopop, with some Korean stuff mixed it, and a few bits of Jpop.
My favorite Asian bands/artists are Fahrenheit, Big Bang, S.H.E, and Huang Yi Da. They're the ones I'm the most insane about. I also really like 183 Club, 5566, Comic Boyz, F4, Jolin Tsai, and Wang Chuan Yi (...Kingone).
4. Anime (I didn't know you liked anime as well!)
Hehe, it's actually safe to say everything began with anime. It was 1997 when I first heard of anime. My best friend (
sn0tcat) had recently gotten into Sailor Moon, and was telling me about it. At first it confused the hell out of me (lets face it, Sailor Moon is confusing), but I became interested in it. And then obsessed with it. I forget exactly what happened, but I lost interest for a few years, until another good friend of mine introduced me to Escaflowne.
If I thought I had loved Sailor Moon, I was wrong. Escaflowne blew Sailor Moon out of the water. From there I watched Marmalade Boy, Fushigi Yuugi, Weiss Kreuz, Hana Yori Dango (which is what lead me to dramas in the first place), Pokemon, Card Captor Sakura, Inuyasha, etc.
And then I stopped again. For MANY years. Back then we would exchange VHS tapes (remember those?!), and mine were all put away somewhere. I kept wanting to watch stuff, but didn't have the energy to find the tapes. It wasn't until
sn0tcat introduced me to torrents that I started watching again (I'm seeing a pattern. Lisa, I do believe you are the source of everything!). I prefer dramas overall, but occasionally I really like watching anime (my current ones are Vampire Knight and Skip Beat).
5. Liveblogging - I can only do it the second time I watch something, so I'm interested in how you go about doing so the first time.
Liveblogging is hard (for me), and it takes enormous amounts of time. I never used to do it, and thus got through stuff a lot quicker. But now I find myself unable to NOT do it (Honestly, it's hard to watch something and not cap/comment on it. It feels unfulfilling).
I use Real Alternative with Windows Media Player Classic. Unlike with VLC, WMPC has a keyboard shortcut that allows you to take caps quicker. That means I don't spend as much time capping (also means I end up with hundreds of caps...).
A lot of the time I'll just cap, and write my comments in later (I do that for all movies, and most dramas), but sometimes I write stuff as I watch it (I do this for more current stuff usually).
The caps are the worst though, because I take so many, and then have to go through them to pick out the meaningful ones. And then I have to resize them. And then write the code to put them in the blog.
It's a lot of work, and a lot of the time I dread it. But I also really like writing up my thoughts on something. I like hearing what other people think. What can I say, dramas make me really happy.
Um, if you want, you can ask me for things I associated you with, but it'll probably take awhile for me to get them. I still haven't done Lisa's interview questions (it's HARD to think of questions for you! But I'll do it, I promise!)
