I decided to do a Love Scar post. Mostly because I ended up with over 100 screencaps (why do I do this to myself). I'm not really going to fully narrate the post, and mostly let the pictures do the talking. Also, I noticed about halfway through, that a good portion of my caps were Jerry close ups. So, yeah, gratuitous Jerry pictures post!

Also, I have to say, I don't find Karen Mok all that pretty, but her hair has to be the best hair I've ever seen. It (only slightly) surpasses Barbie's hair. It reminds me a good deal of Joe's hair in The Rose. I still can't decide who's in prettier. Luckily I'm still separating best hair on gender. Karen wins for Love Scar, Joe wins for The Rose.

ANYWAY, onwards!

So here's the basic plot. Gen Sha (Karen Mok) is meeting her husband's family for the first time. She and her husband Zhi Liang (Jacky Cheung) are Taiwanese, but have been living in Japan for awhile. As they arrive in the airport, they meet Zhi Liang's dad. A few minutes later, Zhi Liang's mother and brother Zhi Ling (Jerry Yan) show up. Gen Sha is shocked to see them (they're shocked to see her too), and she passes out.

*FLASHBACK* Gen Sha just graduated college, and is going to Japan for a trip with her best friend (who's name I forget). On the way there, she meets Zhi Ling , who (annoyingly) jumps in a picture she's taking with her friend. They argue a bit, and Gen Sha doesn't much like him. Later Gen Sha meets up with a former schoolmate (Sheng), and her friend immediately takes a liking to him. On the plane to Japan, Gen Sha's friend wants to sit next to Sheng, leaving Gen Sha by herself. As it turns out, Zhi Ling is in the seat next to her. Over the course of the flight, it becomes obvious Zhi Ling really likes Gen Sha. The next day, Gen Sha's friend wants to go out with Ah Chuan, and leaves Gen Sha by herself. Zhi Ling shows up, and convinces her to go out with him. She goes, and later that night, although she tells him she doesn't want to fall in love with him because he's so young (he's 18, she's in her twenties), they kiss. Zhi Ling brings Gen Sha back to her hotel, where she invites him in. They sleep together. Over the next few days in Japan, they fall in love. After going back to Taiwan, Gen Sha and Zhi Ling are in a relationship. Zhi Ling's mother finds out, and wants to break them up. She asks Gen Sha to break up with Zhi Ling. Gen Sha agrees.

*END FLASHBACK* Gen Sha wakes up, and Zhi Ling/Zhi Liang's mother asks her not to tell Zhi Liang about anything. We later find out that Zhi Ling has become a player, sleeping with lots of women because he thinks that Gen Sha played him. He also still loves Gen Sha.

The rest of the story is just Gen Sha and Zhi Ling fighting their feelings for each other.

*SPOILERS* Highlight to see. In the end, Gen Sha doesn't end up with either of them. She loves Zhi Ling, but doesn't want to hurt Zhi Liang. She decides to punish herself, and not have either of them. Before Zhi Ling leaves (for America) he tells her he won't give up, and he'll find her again. As Zhi Liang leaves, he tells her that he'll always be waiting for her. It's bittersweet, but hopeful.

So yeah, pics!

FLASHBACK BEGINS

See, he totally already loves her

Of COURSE there's a parent who objects their union. Also, hoody! :)

Zhi Ling goes to live with Gen Sha for a bit after he leaves his house because his mother objects to him having a girlfriend. That's kinda why the mother wants Gen Sha to give him up.

It never explains how Gen Sha broke up with him, especially since he's living at her house at that point.

END FLASHBACK

Gen Sha wakes up in a hospital

Zhi Ling works in a video/music store while going to school. He also sleeps with anything with boobs.

His mom asks him not to tell his brother about him and Gen Sha's past.

That night the family has dinner (Hot Pot!)

And Jerry does this while pretending to greet Gen Sha. *dies*

The family wants to go to the hotsprings as a celebration, but the parents aren't able to go. So Gen Sha and Zhi Liang go alone.

To only to be joined later by Zhi Ling and one of his girlfriends, Jing Jing (who he works with).

He then proceeds to make out with Jing Jing, in front of Gen Sha.

He hits on her at the hot springs, but she rejects him

The next day, she goes to the hair salon, wanting her hair cut off (since Zhi Ling mentioned how much he loves her hair). The whole time I was like "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO", but the hair didn't get cut, thank goodness! (Thought they straightened it, and made it less pretty)

Meanwhile Zhi Ling and Zhi Liang have a chat.

Zhi Ling and Zhi Liang's parents are divorced, but got together again. The father proposes, and the mother agrees to marry him again. In celebration, Zhi Liang gets all drunk, and he and Gen Sha have to stay the night at his parents house (also where Zhi Ling lives).

Zhi Ling goes to a bar, where a girl hits on him. He's later attacked by said girl's boyfriend. I LAUGHED so hard at this part! Look at his face!

Zhi Ling comes home all injured. Gen Sha tries to help him.

He finds out that she didn't want to leave him, and melts towards her. He still loves her, but she is married to his brother

Gen Sha and Zhi Liang get married (again), and Zhi Ling, trying to be a good bro-in-law, congratulates them

But he's totally dying inside

Doesn't have anything to do with the pic (JEEERRRY!), but he and his ex girlfriend Ling Ling decide to go into business, working on some CD-ROM thing.

Simultaneously, Gen Sha gets a new job working for a language learning place.

Turns out that Zhi Ling and Jing Jing are working on developing a language CD for Gen Sha's company

She's his boss! :)

Zhi Liang is amused by this, and hopes she and Zhi Ling get along

One day, while looking through a book....

Zhi Liang finds a picture of Gen Sha and Zhi Ling together! (As he was flipping through the book, I was like "Oh No!! You're going to find an incriminating photo!!"

He goes to see Gen Sha's friend, who explains to him that Gen Sha and Zhi Ling were previously involved. He doesn't blame Gen Sha, and doesn't want her to know that he knows.

A little while later, Zhi Ling and Gen Sha are working, when a typhoon comes into Taipei

Zhi Liang is worried, and decides to go get Gen Sha

Gen Sha is tired, and falls asleep. Zhi Ling takes advantage, and pulls her to him.

Course, Zhi Liang sees this. Gen Sha is still asleep, but wakes up a minute after Zhi Liang leaves

The project is a success, and Jing Jing takes everyone out to the restuarant Gen Sha used to work at. There, the owner talks to Zhi Ling about how his mother made them break up. Zhi Ling is, of course, upset

He tells her he still loves her, and asks her to come to meet him the next day. If she doesn't appear, he'll never contact her again.

Gen Sha is all conflicted

But she goes to see him. To say goodbye.

SPOILERS!! Highlight to see. She tells him she loves him, but can't be with him (because she'll hurt his brother). He tells her he'll find her again after he comes back from studying abroad.

AND That's the end. Whew!

So yeah, it was cute. I did like it a lot, because it was actually an ADULT drama. I can't explain exactly what I mean, but it was a lot more mature that what most dramas are like. And it was more realistic is some ways, I mean, Gen Sha wasn't some shy virginal good girl, she was a normal woman. The ending was a bit annoying, but I thinking back on it now, liked the ambiguity. It was kinda abrupt though. I think they could have added another episode to keep things from feeling so damn rushed.

I really liked Jerry in this. In the first part, he was really cute, acting childish. He actually appeared to be childlike, despite being 25 when this filmed. Then, later in the drama, he became cold, only to be thawed when he found Gen Sha again. I don't usually think he's such an amazing actor, but he really did well in this role. Karen Mok and Jackie Cheung did well too. I don't know either of them, but apparently they're big in Hong Kong (like, half the cast was from Hong Kong). Also, random cameo from Tang Qi, who played the grandmother in Devil Beside You (with Figaro! Who ALSO did a random cameo!).
