Formula 17 = Brain candy

Formula 17 was so freaking adorable!! It's one of those fun movies that are like cotton candy for your brain. Fluffy, delicious, sweet, and airy. But ultimately unnourishing. (Nice metaphor there, huh?!)
It's basically a chick flick, with gay guys. But it was fun, and cute, and I don't care that it wasn't Casablanca.
The portrayal of gays was quite amusing, you had a spectrum there; from the huge glittery flamers, to the Gucci wearing business men. (No Bears though... but I'm not sure that stereotype exists in Taiwan) Despite some stereotype, I thought it was a fair portrayal, they even showed an older gay couple. Kudos to Taiwan for that.
Parts of it were hilarious, and I laughed out loud a lot. Also, I think I have a new obsession with Tony Yang. GOD he's hot. His face is beautiful. His CHEEKBONES! (I've recently discovered I have a massive cheekbone fetish)
Anyway, I'm probably not going to do a full review, but I felt the need to post these screenshots.

Totally destined to be an icon... I love you, Tony Yang.
I actually think the pictures work better without commentary...

(Yes, the movie ends with a clothing montage, and then a bunch of dudes show their asses. It's pretty good)
So yeah, I'd recommend it if you're in the mood for something light and funny. It's highly entertaining. Plus, TONY YANG!! (Also, they randomly speak Cantonese in it, causing some of the characters to angrily say "SPEAK MANDARIN!!" I feel the same way, dudes, the same way.)

Date: 2009-02-20 02:37 pm (UTC)Thing is, as much as I liked this movie, it cannot ever compare to the gay Taiwanese film love of my life; Eternal Summer. If you haven't seen it, see it! It's amazing, and lovely, and actually got me interested in slash for the first time ever. And Joseph Chang and Bryant Chang are beautiful.
(Netflicks?! That's pretty awesome!)
