I watched Antique last night. You were right, [livejournal.com profile] darkeyedwolf. It really IS about gay and cake! (I'm not doing a full review, check out the GREAT pimp post on [livejournal.com profile] rainscene instead!)

It was... interesting. In a GOOD way. Though honestly, I prefered the second half a ton more than the first half.

Like I've said before, I'm a lot harsher on movies than on dramas. So if this were a drama, I've love it (speaking of, I totally have to watch the jdrama now, because TAKANO IS THE GAY PASTRY CHEF). As it is, I liked it quite a bit, but didn't love it ala Eternal Summer.

The thing is, it was hilarious. I was seriously laughing out loud for a good portion of it. And the later part was poignant and dramatic. Plus, it was gay. VERY gay. Which was quite nice.

BUT I wasn't shipping at all. I'm glad Jin Hyuk didn't end up gay. I liked the friendship between him and Sun Woo a lot better than I would have liked a relationship.

And Choi Ji Ho reminded me a TON of Lee Un for some reason, and that made me sad...

Kim Jae Wook isn't really my type, but holy shit, Jo Ji Hoon totally is. I found him attractive in Goong, but I was more impressed with Kim Jeong Hoon. But he's perfect in this movie. Longer hair + stubble = total hotness.

And yes, I took a TON of gratitous caps.

They look so cute in that TINY CAR!

Somehow the smoking was REALLY hot.

Sun Woo looks like a matador.

Also, I forgot to post this picture awhile back. I was watching The Rose, and saw this;

Ah Wei is wearing a BOSTON CELTICS jersey! (For those who don't know, the Celtics are the basketball team for Boston, MA. They're awesome, btw. AWESOME.)

And a random shippy picture. Kui x Bai He 4EVA!!

Dude I ADORED Antique Bakery. If we get down to it, I watched this movie for the pretty and for the GEY, but it was actually pretty good.

You're right. Jo Ji Hoon was PERFECT in it. He's still too pretty-boy looking for my tastes, but I can admire a good-looking man when I see him.

But what surprised me the most is that I've actually seen the French guy in another movie prior to this one. I NEVER recognize the white actors in Asian movies/dramas.

I can't remember the name of the movie he was in, but he dressed up as a woman for the last quarter of it. He pulled it off pretty damn well.

I wasn't sold at first (the first half was a bit too ridiculous for me), but later on when the angst happened, I started to like it a LOT more.

I thought he was hot, but kinda weird looking in goong. Now I realize the missing factor was the shaggy hair and the scruffiness. That made ALL the different for me. That and the tight pants.

Really? Coolness! I didn't recognize him, but man, he was hot. Hehehe! Aw, guys in drag!

Oh I was won over the second Kim Jae Wook's character confessed to Jo Ji Hoon's on the roof. OH SO DORKY. And the bodyguard who looked like a thug? OH MAN. The characters totally made this for me.

It was dorkily cute! I totally didn't recognize Kim Jae Wook without the long hair though!

I love the characters immensely as well. They were the best part of the movie. Where it kinda lost me was the odd (imaginary?) musical numbers. Not that they weren't cute, but they confused me. Random stuff like that always throws me off.

You know, I'm really chill with movies so it doesn't really phase me. They could have been tap-dancing to show tunes on the ovens and I probably would have been to busy admiring the pretty boys to notice.

I'm like, a TON more critical with movies that I am with dramas (I blame the fact that I've studied film studies in the past).

If it were in a drama, I'd have been totally cool.

Antique Bakery was adorable.

Btw, if you want to check out more Joo Ji Hoon, I highly recommend Mawang/Devil, one of my all time favorite dramas.

It was adorable. A lot more adorable than I expected.

I've heard good things about Mawang! I don't know much about it (other than Ikuta Toma is in the jdrama version....), but I would like to see it. And seeing Joo Ji Hoon in this has caused his stock to rise quite a bit in my eyes.

I have a lot of posts about Mawang, but they are spoilery. Except for Legend, it's my favorite drama of all time :)

I only watched the Antique anime, so I don't know anything about the manga, drama, or movie versions.. But as far as I understand, the gay guy isn't gay in the drama.

The two in the tiny car -> who is the one with the hat? because he is HOT and I want to bone him RIGHT NOW

I'd heard that gay baker wasn't gay in the jdrama, but I was hoping it was a baseless rumor... Oh well, it's still Takano (I kinda remember his name now too! But I still prefer to call him Takano...), so whatever. I'll watch it.

That, my friend, is Kim Jae Wook. He was in Coffee Prince where he spoke Japanese. Dude, you NEED to watch Coffee Prince!
(Also, see more of him (shirtless) at [livejournal.com profile] princess_dexter's post here. You will not be disappointed.

It's SUCH a cute movie. Plus really hot boys. And cake. So yeah, worth seeing :D

I also was totally craving cake after watching it!

The Antique movie was great (I've only seen the unsubbed cam version, though I've got the subbed DVD rip waiting) with lots of eyecandy in it :).

However, regarding the jdrama, I have to warn you that it's extremely boring and confusing, and takes all the gay out of the story :P. Despite an amazing cast of j-actors, they completely managed to botch this adaptation :P.

I only watched it all the way through because I'm a completist and a Takizawa Hideaki fan (he plays the boxer who wants to become a cake maker). Having Fujiki Naohito and Abe Hiroshi in the drama as well doesn't hurt at all.

I'm still amazed how they completely managed to make a drama with such a cast a complete and utter dud?!

Icon is from one of the promo pics for the drama...

Thanks for the heads up! I might still watch it eventually, but now that I know they took they gay out, it's kinda ruined for me.

So much pretty... so wasted.

!! That's a promo pic?! AND THEY TOOK THE GAY OUT?! Are they trying to confuse us?

Here is the entire pic: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v192/Vierran/Takki/antiquepromo.jpg which, funnily enough, is much more suggestive than the entire drama :D... It was such a waste!

OH GOD I KNOW. My attention was torn equally between Sun Woo's nipples and Jin Hyuk's scruffy charm.

Hahaha! Sun Woo's nipples did have a large role. They should have gotten a screen credit.

I wasn't a huge fan of Ji Hoon in Goong, but here, RAWR!

I couldn't get into Goong or Mawang, so I was a bit worried JJH would be one of those actors I couldn't click with. Now I know: I just need his characters gay.

HAHA! I guess in this case it's the gay that makes the man ;)

I've seen the Jdrama, with horrible Engrishy subs. It was okay. They really toned down the gayness though. I don't know if it's really worth watching but I guess you could give it a chance.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm not sure I want to watch a version of Antique where there isn't a flamboyantly gay pastry chef... Even if it IS Fujiki Naohito...

From: [identity profile] marspeach.livejournal.com
Yeah, he does have the same effect of attracting guys and stuff but..... SPOILERS......

He's not gay. He just had a bad breakup with a girl in the past and so shies away from relationships.

!!! That SUCKS! Why would they strip the gay from it?!
