I still don't find Kame all that attractive. I like him a lot, but he's so not my type. He's way too thin, and he eyebrows weird me out a bit.
But then, suddenly, I found him pretty hot in this shot.

Almost done with Nobuta! And I was TOTALLY off base on who the bitchy girl was. I think I still have bias against Toda Erika from HYD. Stupid Umi...

Date: 2009-06-21 01:59 am (UTC)It's funny, because you find Kame super hot, and I think Yamapi is GORGEOUS. Seriously, if I saw him on the street I would run him down and jump him. Apparently he is very my type. BUT prior to Nobuta, I was all like "who is this Yamapi, and why is he god-like to fangirls?!"... I still don't get the massive attention to him. Sure, he's hot, but so is Yamada Takayuki, or Osamu, etc, and they don't get near the same attention.
I want to give it a try, mostly because of Nobuta. When I like a pairing of two actors, I tend to watch everything else they've been in together. Hehehe... lectures?! That should be, uh, interesting.
in defense of Tsurara, because Kurosaki is a catch 22 douche....
Date: 2009-06-21 03:17 am (UTC)He's definitely emo and he's a victim of his own fate - he has a definite shitty backstory, but with every case - you suddenly realize that Kurosaki can't really ever achieve any long term happiness because he purposefully isolates himself from anyone who can help him/comfort him. Because revenge is his life.
Which brings in Maki's Tsurara, and she's definitely a different character from Nobuta (I find it v. interesting that they essentially filmed two series together back to back and Yamapi got to work with her from when she was 15/16 and then 17.) She's the standard idealistic 'moral' character who doesn't agree with Kurosaki's way of dealing with issues - where he's shades of grey (odd contrast to his name Kuro (black swindler) at the beginning, Tsurara is very black or white - you do good or you do bad. And that lends itself to speeches that come off as preachy and annoying to some viewers. She wants to be a prosecutor and fight the bad guys that way, and Kurosaki doesn't agree and thinks she's a nuisance. But over the course of the series, their minds do change about each other's methods, and I think it's...episode 6 or 8? It's been a long time - where Tsurara has a major breakdown and pleads for Kurosaki. It's very UST-based and Yamapi had some rather splendid moments of eye-fucking, and both of them are at the pinnacle of their attractiveness (well, Yamapi certainly was. I think Maki's gotten better looking as she gets older.) together. But yeah, if you want ship fulfillment...umm...maybe another drama would be better for you.
When I watched Kurosagi at the time, I did enjoy it and love it a lot and I shipped Kurosaki/Tsurara so hard because she does love him so very much and he can't bring himself to quite get rid of her - but as the years passed and I revisited it with different eyes, it's only a so-so drama. I think Yamapi has it in him to really fully inhabit a character and do amazing things with it (Akira was a wonderful gift of improvisation and selflessness and spot on teenage selfishness at the same time) and be more than just a Johnny's actor, but he hasn't really stepped up to the plate for me. And he doesn't even have his hotness to pull him through as of late - I'm definitely not one of the fangirls who think sunshine comes out of his ass (ahem), but his recent fugstyle of late needs to GO. HE NEEDS TO HAVE SHINY BLACK HAIR AGAIN. Oh, and since I'm on a roll of dishing the Yamadrama opinion, I hated Kenzo from Prodai with the heat of a thousand suns. Totally fucking useless character. I also just binned Prodai for all the rage.
And now I will go and write you Sho/Chisato comment fic. ;)
