Big Bang Pimp Post : Members (part 4)

Dae Sung

I love Dae, so very much. He's always so upbeat, smiley, and brings an air of happiness with him. He truly is the mood-maker of Big Bang. Dae has a beautiful voice, and has grown up so much in the years he's been with Big Bang. Despite going through a lot of difficulty in his life, he has managed to stay consistently positive, and happy. He doesn't take his luck for granted, and I admire that in him. Dae is sunshine, pure and simple.

Basic Info
Name: Kang Dae Sung / 강대성 / 姜大成
Stage Name: Dae Sung, D-Lite
DOB: April 26, 1989
Height: 178cm (probably taller now)
Blood Type: O
Position within group: Singer, mood-maker

Random Facts!
- Dae is the only member of Big Bang with a license.
- Dae underwent a lot of familiar opposition in order to become a singer. His father was against it, due to a family member trying to get into the industry and failing.
- Dae was originally seen as the "ugly one" in Big Bang (which still doesn't make any sense at all to me, but whatever). Despite his presumed ugliness, YG was attracted to Dae's open friendliness, amazing smile, and wonderful voice.
- Dae has become one of the most popular members in Big Bang.
- Before Dae became a singer, he had thought about becoming a pastor due to his religious upbringing. He also thought about becoming a soccer player, however that dream was dashed when he injured his knee.
- When Dae was first a trainee, the older Big Bang members didn't know what to think of him, because he was always acting so happy despite having to do menial tasks for everyone (which is typical in an agency, the youngest or newest member gets assigned the dirty work like cleaning toilets, etc).
- Around the time of Big Bang's first single, Dae was diagnosed with vocal cored nodules, which is a common ailment amongst singers, caused by vocal strain. During this time, Gummy and Dae became close, as Gummy helped Dae recover.
- Dae was in a Korean production of CATS. He played Rum Tum Tugger.
- Dae was part of the main cast of the variety show Family Outing season 1. The premise of Family Outing is that each week the "family" travels to a different house, where they send the family on vacation. The home owners leave a set of tasks for the group to accomplish in their absence. Hilarity ensues :D
- In August 2009 Dae was involved in a pretty bad car accident while coming back from filming "Family Outing". He was in the passenger seat when the car, driven by his manager, slammed into the guard rail during heavy rain (the manager, and a stylist who was in the back seat survived, but with more critical injuries). Luckily Dae sustained relatively minor injuries (nothing life threatening, which is amazing considering the crash pictures). He fractured his ribs, his nose, and his left orbital bone. He also injured his back. He had to undergo surgery to fix his nose and orbital, and was in treatment for around 8 weeks.
- Dae was set to act in the musical "Shouting" (which is based off of Big Bang's book) along with Baby, however due to his accident, he was not able to take part in the show.
- Dae is set to be in his first tv drama, with a role in Song Ji Na's upcoming drama "What's Up", which is about musical students as a university.
- Dae is known for his adorable smile (also, more shallowly, his great abs, and nice arms)
- Dae has quite the Doraemon obsession, and has quite the collection, ranging from simple cell phone charms to boxers.
- Dae enjoys trot music, and has released several trot singles.
- Is the mood maker, and gag man in Big Bang.

Music Videos
(All of Dae's singles don't have MVs, but I will include the songs here anyway)

Dae's first collaboration was in Nemo's song "이제 우리 (Now We)". His voice fit beautifully into the ballad.

Dae's first digital single, "날봐, 귀순 (Look at Me, Gwisoon)" was a huge departure from typical Big Bang songs, in that Dae's song is trot. Despite being written just for fun, the song climbed to the top of the charts.

Dae's second digital single was also a trot song. "대박이야! (Big Hit!)" has a slower tempo than "Look at Me, Gwisoon", and an inspirational message. It was also a success on the charts.

"솜사탕 (Cotton Candy)" is Dae's newest digital single. It was released in late January 2010, right before the Big Show 2010. With a much different sound from his previous singles, "Cotton Candy" is a hugely sweet song.

Concert Videos

Dae's first solo song was "웃어본다 (Try Smiling)" off of their third single. "Try Smiling" is a slow ballad, and is just a gorgeous song. He's performed this song for "The Real" concert as well, but I like this version from "The Great", because Baby plays piano!

For the "Global Warning" tour, Dae performed "날봐귀순 (Look at Me, Gwisoon)" in true trot style! The performance is hilarious, especially during the random dance break in the middle of it.

Dae performed "대박이야! (Big Hit!)" for the "Big Show 2009" concert, and the performance is hilarious. In between singing, there's dancing and choreographed fighting to music from Lee Hyori's "U Go Girl". It's pretty awesome :D

Various Videos

Dae did a CF for Big Hit Chicken, and altered his song "Look at Me, Gwisoon". In typical Dae fashion, the CF is really funny! This is the 15s version, but there's also a 30s version, but the quality isn't as good.

Dae and TOP playing with a toy chicken, with Dae making some pretty odd and amusing faces!

During the YG One concert, while TOP was indisposed, Dae performed his rap part of Lies. He even did the same movements TOP does while rapping!

I love this video. Dae's lip-syncing his song, getting all into it, and then TOP comes in, and ruins Dae's groove. I love how Dae tries to ignore him, but TOP's not having any of that!

Possibly the most awesome thing I've seen in recent memory, this is a compilation of Dae dancing to various girl group's dances. He is hilarious, and really good!

Dae being adorable, on FO, wearing a giant sun hat, and being scared by a fish!

Here's Dae on a radio show singing Brian McKnight's song, "Back At One". He sounds great!

The Family Outing music video!

A video compilation of a rehearsal for Cats.

Dae's performance in Cats. I'm not sure if this is the full performance, since it's been quite a few years since I've seen Cats, but either way, you get to see Dae act! I think he does a great job.

This is an interview featuring the main cast for "What's Up". It's not subbed, so I have no idea what they're talking about, but it's still cute, as it introduces the actors. Watch out around 4:40, as Dae makes an adorable mistake! Instead of saying "Wide Entertainment", he says "YG Entertainment". Can't blame him though :D
