So the other day I was looking through my drama chart, and noticed a bit of a trend. A lot of times I tend to stop watching dramas around episode 8 or so.

Sometimes this is the middle point (kdramas), sometimes it's near the end (jdramas), and sometimes it's near the beginning (twdramas/cdramas). So I can't say it's because of the stage of the series.

My guess is that that's just how much I can handle watching straight through. Usually when I start a drama I flail over it, and watch a bunch of episodes at once. But after awhile I get impatient, and inevitably watch the ending, which makes me not want to finish the rest (this is EXACTLY what I do with books too).

So my question: is there any point in a drama where you get sidetracked?

(Note: I'm also a lot less patient now than when I first started watching dramas. I mean, hell, I got through 36 hours of Fated to Love You, and over 20 hours of A Game About Love [which is the most boring drama I've watched ever]... but now? I must be getting old ;P )

I have a bad habit of falling out of love with a drama halfway through, when the shiny/newness has worn off or things are getting repetitive and it's become clear how things will end (like who the OTP will be, who is obviously gonna die, etc).

I'm the opposite when it comes to patience -- kdramas used to be torture, I had the hardest time sitting still for 60+ minutes no matter how much I was enjoying it. Now I inhale multiple eps a day without breaking a sweat. Korea gave me back my attention span. XD

I think I fall out of love with dramas in the middle because that's when the major conflict starts, you know, when both parties are in love with each other, yet they can't be together because of X, and there's misunderstanding and missed chances, etc. I get impatient.

Really? I started with twdramas, so I got used to things that were 8 million episodes long, and then went to jdramas. I guess I got used to how short they were..

Hmmm...let's see. Months ago, I started watching La Dolce Vita and for some reason that I could not fathom, I stopped watching it.

Generally, I have the patience to watch even the most boring or the ones that are really heavy dramas but I don't know what happened with La Dolce Vita.

I mean just last night, I managed to finish episode 32 of Queen Seon Dok and it was the most boring episode so far.

The whole episode was just about the three meanings behind the name of their country Shilla.

Flashback galore baby!

Hehehe, sounds like a fun episode ;D
Sometimes I have patience, sometimes I just can't even comprehend watching a drama longer than 10 episodes. I'm usually the latter.

Hmm.

There are quite a few dramas that I haven't watched all the way through. Sometimes I just don't bother with the last episode; other times, I simply give up on the show halfway through.

Sometimes it's because the story starts to drag, or because the story is too intense and I'm afraid of an ending I won't like.

I understand that! I remember when I first started dramas, my friend told me not to pay that much attention to the last episode, because usually they suck. She was right ;D

Not necessarily dramas, but a lot of times I end up stalling right after the first episode of a show. I watch it and decide that I like it enough to continue, but I'll be thinking, "well, I'll just finish it some other time" and download it all, but never finish watching it.

Same with me. I either watch to episode 8 or so, or just stop after episode 1. I have a ton of dramas that I have only one episode watched of, and I keep saying I'll go back to it, but meeeh.

That reminds me... WATCH COFFEE PRINCE.

When I stop, I stop at the 9th or 10th episode usually.

also, your spreadsheet is so pretty and functional!! which template is it? I'd love to make one too.

(I stop at the 9th or 10th UNLESS I stop between the 2nd or 3rd episodes, which happens quite often too)

Ah, you're like me then! I stop anywhere from 6-10 usually.

Thanks :D
No template, once day I spent about three hours creating the thing. You're free to steal it if you like! I'll see if I can make a template and upload it.

First off, I LOVE that you have a drama chart. I really wish I could organize my dramas that way, but I'm fickle when it comes to what I watch.

I drop a drama if I get extremely annoyed by supporting characters, who have no redeeming qualities and are merely clingy and vengeful, or who are all too perfect second fiddles. Sadly, that describes most of the dramas I've heard of, so I can't say I've finished watching a lot of dramas.

Hehehe! Thanks! I'm pretty obsessed with lists, and one day I just sat down and compiled it. I mostly keep it because otherwise I'd forget which episode I was on, or which dramas I want to watch in the future.

Ah, the annoying secondary characters... I get that. Sometimes I'm tolerant of it, sometimes I want to rip my hair out over their annoying-ness. I guess it just depends on my mood and if they're hot.

This happens to me all the time. I tend to get easily distracted about halfway througha drama and then drop it for the longest time. And sometimes I start a new drama, watch 1 or 2 episodes, think I like it, but then never go back and finish it.

On the other, there are occasions when I marathon through an entire drama in a couple of days...

I'm pretty much the same way. I loved Goong, but haven't gotten past episode 14. I watched one episode of Kisarazu Cat's Eye, and adored it. But I haven't watched a single episode since.

I just don't get my brain :D
