Well... I'm not really sure I'm going to like this. Like I tweeted, it's not really Pirates to me without Keira Knightley. Elizabeth is my favorite character. I love her. She is the emitome of kickass awesomness. I mean, she starts out life being coddled and treated like a doll. And then she realizes more than everything, she wants freedom. That is amazing to me.

Or, to quote myself four years ago;
"Despite the utterly lust inducing Jack, Elizabeth is my favorite character. She is what I would like to be, what I hope someday to be; a genuine kickass heroine. Someone at the precipice of her life, deciding between the way everyone else thinks she should go, and the way she wants to go."

Without Elizabeth, the movie is kinda dead for me. I love Jack (I NAMED MY CAT AFTER HIM), but without the feminine foil of Elizabeth, it's all just blah.

No to mention most of the characters are missing - Cotton, Marty, Pintel, Ragetti... Plus, while Ted and Terry are still the writers (I'm still kinda pissed at them though - they REALLY let me down in the last movie), Gore is not the director. It's like a whole new movie, not at all connected. Besides Jack and Gibbs...

Plus, I'm not the hugest fan of Penelope Cruz. So there's that.

Sorry if I haven't replied to comments in the last 2-ish weeks. [livejournal.com profile] sn0tcat was at my house, and we were having all sorts of fall-induced adventures (including FOLIAGE WATCHING).

Aside from that things have been slow in drama/movie/stuff land. I'm still watching Mischievous Kiss (though without subs...). I like it alot. It's suitably low key and slice of life-esque for me. I still enjoy the Taiwanese version more though. But there are a lot of contributing factors to that opinion - mostly that ISWAK was my first Taiwanese drama and the start point of my Taiwan obsession.

[livejournal.com profile] sn0tcat and I watched the Korean horror movie Thirst the other day. Uhhhh... Korea... *sigh* It's not really horror. It's kinda gross, but not really horror-ey. And I just ended up hating the characters. Like, the female character - at first you feel bad for her, but at the end you realize she's fucking crazy, and deserves what she gets. And while there was a ghost, he was weirdly happy and non-threatening. CONSIDERING HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HAUNTING PEOPLE. As for the priest himself - I don't get him. He started righteous, but he lost that righteousness super fast. He was a BAD priest. Bad, bad, bad. Anyway, I think I'm going to give up watching Korean horror movies. They never make sense. They jump around so much it's insane. Even non-horror kmovies are a bit skippy. Why, Korea, why?! As [livejournal.com profile] sn0tcat said, we watched it for the nudity. It was the first mainstream Korean movie to feature full frontal male nudity. It wasn't even that good.

We did get to see Easy A though, which was delightful. And we "almost" got hit by a train, so that was fun (we were on some train tracks, making inappropriate Fried Green Tomatoes jokes, and suddenly there was a train coming). There were also PLENTIFUL boner jokes, the speaking of Chinese, and nostalgia over our classmates from Taiwan (particularly a Japanese guy, Chun Yi, who had a spectacular ass).

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] sn0tcat! I don't want to be without you (in a non-gay way)!
(^^^^ It's an inside joke. Don't worry, I'm fully supportive of LGBT rights)

I've had this sitting on my computer for awhile for some reason. So... posted!

I've been watching a lot of movies lately (my recent attention span has not been good enough for dramas ;D )

Last night I watched An Education which was quite good. The acting was great (I actually thought Peter Sarsgaard wasn't up to par, but that just might have been because his character creeped me out), especially Carey Mulligan, of course. I also quite liked Rosamund Pike playing the vapid Helen. I quite like her, I find her face really interesting and pretty.

Tonight I watched Please Teach Me English, which is a kmovie. Unlike the majority of kmovies I've seen, PTME was not abrupt or confusing in the least. In fact, it was adorable, sweet, and super funny. I found the portrayal of foreigners alternatively amusing and quite good (the main foreign character was made to look just a bit too sexualized, however in general I thought they did a good job). And they actually found western actors who could speak English well, imagine that! (Seriously though, I never understood why they always picked western actors who obviously didn't know how to speak English that well. Surely native English speakers can't be that hard to find! *looking at YOU, Japan*) Regardless, it was an adorable movie.

What to watch tomorrow, that is the question.

When I woke up this morning I had an awesome surprise for me. GD's remix of "Heartbreaker" with Flo Rida was released early. I REALLY like the song. It's a bit random, but whatever. I like it. I like that there's new lyrics, and I quite enjoyed Flo Rida's part. Yes, I like Flo Rida. I love "Right Round". I think it's a great collab.

It's going to rain all week, which is shitty. It's still winter-like here as well. No green yet, everything's still dead. Spring comes later to us. It's unpleasant. Times like these I really miss the constant green of living in a subtropical climate. I do not miss the humidity though. Not. At. All.
